I'm just a girl from Chula Vista who somehow found her way to becoming a professor. But along that journey, I had the support of the most amazing people, including my parents, my family, my friends, my colleagues, my mentors & femtors, my students, and my community.

As someone who was raised to value public service, I often find myself wanting to create communal spaces or opportunities to uplift and validate others. As a Latina faculty member, I'm too often reminded of how isolating and dismissive the academy can be for communities of color - Of how emotionally draining and psychologically exhausting it is to remain committed to our profession. A profession that values productivity, intellectualism, competitiveness, and solitude - as opposed to love, community, culutra, wholeness, humility, justice, and familia.

As a way to give back, I established a scholarship to support doctoral students at SDSU who dedicate their research and practice to advancing success for Latina/o/x students.

Many of you have supported my journey and I'm hoping you can help me support others.
