About Javier

Picture
Coming from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Javier Ramirez (he/him) is a fourth-year doctoral student at the University of Texas at Austin in the Program in Higher Education Leadership & Policy (PHELP). His personal research agenda broadly examines how state and federal policy impacts the educational experiences for low-wealth and first-generation college students with attention to college access programs and TRIO programs. He also examines LGBTQ+ students, men & masculinities, and socioeconomic issues within Fraternity and Sorority Life and graduate education. His research incorporates critical paradigms such as queer theory, critical race theory, and feminist poststructural perspectives.

Javier has two bachelor's degrees in Human Relations and Women's & Gender Studies from the University of Oklahoma and a master's degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs from The Ohio State University. He currently works with St. Edward’s University as the graduate assistant for the McNair Scholars Program.

​In his free time, Javi enjoys binging his favorite TV shows (RuPaul's Drag Race, Big Brother) and . He spends his weekends on the lake, playing in a LGBTQ+ kickball league, supporting local drag, and exploring the food scenes in different cities.
